About Northwest Mexico

Mexico is truly a privileged region of the world. The country’s biological diversity, well known high endemism and wealth of species is due to its location between the Nearctic and Neotropical regions. Approximately ten percent of the worlds 10,000 bird species are found in Mexico, together with the highest diversity of pines and cacti!

Mexico's northwest region is an important destination for travelers interested in witnessing the rich biodiversity of this tremendous area which harbors impressive diversity of species within ecosystems like vast coastal wetlands, endless beaches, thorn/shrub and tropical deciduous forests and the beautiful Western Sierra Madre with elevations of more than 8000 feet.

Almost half of Mexico's avifauna, almost 500 species, have been recorded in the state of Sinaloa, where Mazatlan is situated. This has attracted birders from around the world for decades. Some of the most important birding companies and tour leaders frequent the area yearly including Toucan Birding Tours and BirdQuest from England, Legacy Tours, Victor Emmanuel Nature Tours, Naturalist Journeys, High Lonesome Bird Tours, Mark Pretti Nature Tours and many others.

So don’t miss an opportunity to meet fellow birders, record some lifers on one of our birding tours while enjoying a birding or adventure vacation in Mexico’s Pacific coastal city of Mazatlan.
