We began with the Deer Island Kayak Tour to the offshore islands and Coastal Lagoon Tour to explore the vast coastal mangrove estuary systems. The estuary tour was our spring board into the wonderful world of birding. Since 1996 we have created birding tours which cover the species in the tropical deciduous forest, thorn / scrub forest (Tropical Deciduous Bird Tour) and the pine oak forested canyons of the Sierra Madres Occidentals (The Tufted Jay Preserve Tour). Our Easy Birding tour was designed to expose newcomers to bird watching and the eco-systems found here. We also offer extended tours which include the areas around Mazatlan, the Durango Highway, Tufted Jay Preserve (see newsletter) and San Blas. Due to the success of our Deer Island Kayak Tour, it was chosen by Carnival Cruise Lines in 1997 and is now offered on board most cruise lines that visit the seaport of Mazatlan. The thrill of seeing the Tufted Jay in it’s most spectacular and special habitat spurred us to initiate the creation of a reserve to protect the habitat of this most unique creature. We realized early on that preserving the land on paper would be just that if the human inhabitants did not have economic alternatives to allow them to give up logging and create a new vision for their future. So we became involved, together with the community, in the creation of an eco-tourism master project which at the moment includes accommodations for up to 30 people. (See newsletter). Through our experience with the Palmito community we have created the process needed to promote sustainable development in rural communities and we are applying the same methodology to another rural community in the tropical deciduous forest. In 2005, due to the growth and needs in our company, we welcomed a new partner, Martin Stringel. Martin, who has a strong background in facilitating group dynamics in companies and schools, has been a valuable addition to our group. With his direction we are now offering indoor and outdoor dynamics including rope elements such as zip lines and climbing walls which are designed for team building, boost morale and confidence in a rich and supportive environment. Along with the addition of our new partner, we decided to create a new
company Sendero Mexico Ltd. The creation of this company is the culmination
of many years of experience, growth and our dedication to conservation,
human development and promotion of high quality, informative nature tours.
